Histor launches creator-led campaign ‘Color Your Story’

Dutch paint brand Histor introduces ‘Color Your Story’, a creator-led, social-first campaign that translates personality and personal stories into unique paint colors.

In collaboration with digital agency DEPT®, three influencers were selected and a campaign video was produced. As part of the campaign, Histor also developed the Histor MY color creator: an interactive experience featuring AI-powered color matching.

The campaign was born from two key insights: Histor MY color stands for finding your own personal shade, wherever your inspiration comes from. Yet many people still play it safe, following the “sad beige” trend or choosing a color based on an example picture, so their walls rarely reflect their true personality.

Histor aims to inspire people to express their story, personality, and style through color, and above all, to bring more color into their homes.



Three stories, three shades

To bring this to life, Histor collaborated with three Dutch creators selected by DEPT®, Roos Reedijk, Joey Jaq, and Marije Knevel, each with a passion for interior design. Each creator chose a unique color and co-created a paint can design that reflects their personal story.

In custom-made videos, shot in vibrant studios surrounded by objects that tell their story, they show what their personal color means to them. The films feel more like mood boards than advertisements by blending collages, spontaneous moments, and colors that tell a story without words.

Color is deeply personal – it tells your story without words. The stories of Roos, Joey, and Marije prove that: each of their stories was so rich and authentic that it naturally shaped itself into a single color. Through our collaboration with them and DEPT®, the video campaign feels not only colorful and social-first, but also very personal. Personalisation is a major trend, and with this campaign – especially through the Histor MY color creator – we show that even with paint, you can find that one shade that’s truly yours.

With Histor MY color, the goal is to uncover the shade that reflects your story. We worked directly with the influencers to create something that feels playful, personal, and genuinely social-first – from concept through production.

Campaign rollout

The campaign includes a mix of behind-the-scenes footage, production stills, and home makeovers by the influencers themselves. Histor is focusing primarily on online channels, with the campaign running across META, YouTube, Pinterest, and TikTok.

Interactive experience: the Histor MY color creator

Another key element is the Histor MY color creator, an interactive AI-powered color-matching experience developed by Merlin Studio. The tool translates users’ stories and personalities into one of Histor’s 2,000 colors.

It also explains why a certain shade fits someone’s story and offers inspiration for combining it with other colors. From 30 October to 1 November, a pop-up at Utrecht Central Station – produced by Activation Heroes – will let visitors discover their color in real life and receive a personalized test can. Afterward, activations will continue in selected Gamma and Karwei stores.

DEPT® has been Histor’s digital partner for four years, managing the brand’s digital strategy and advertising. Since last year, DEPT® has also been Histor’s influencer partner. This campaign marks the first time DEPT® has also acted as a creative partner.
