DEPT® Appoints Michael Lanyon as Americas CTO

Global Growth Invention company DEPT® today announced the appointment of Michael Lanyon as Chief Technology Officer, Americas.

Based in Chicago, Lanyon will lead DEPT®’s technology team across the region’s 1000+ team and report to Carryn Quibell, Americas CEO.

Lanyon’s appointment marks an important next step as DEPT® accelerates its Growth Invention platform, helping clients unlock faster, more durable growth through modern, tech-enabled customer experiences. As technology becomes foundational to every aspect of marketing, DEPT® is doubling down on its leadership to scale innovation across disciplines.

With nearly 20 years of experience building high-performing, future-forward technology teams, Lanyon joins DEPT® from Critical Mass, where he served as Global CTO. His background spans large-scale, multichannel delivery for global brands including BMW USA, Apple, AT&T, and the US Army, as well as deep go-to-market partnership experience with Adobe and Google.

In his new role, Lanyon will lead technology delivery for clients, including Google, Intuit, Moody’s, and Lululemon, while expanding DEPT®’s strategic platform partnerships across the Americas. His focus will be on building the next generation of DEPT® technologists across data, AI, product, and platform engineering, and leveraging AI tools within the technology organization to extend team capacity and accelerate client impact.

What excites me about DEPT® is that technology sits on equal footing with creativity, and the company is big enough to have real scale but not so big that humanity gets lost to spreadsheets.
Culture came up in every conversation I had with leadership, so I know I’m joining a place where our values align.

Michael Lanyon, Americas CTO at DEPT®

Lanyon’s arrival builds on senior leadership hires, including Sam Lewis as SVP of Creative & Media and Ben Williams as Global Chief Creative Officer, and reflects continued momentum across the Americas business. That momentum is underscored by recent client wins with Dell, Coach, Taco Bell, and Logitech, as brands seek partners who can navigate rapid transformation across media, creative, technology, and customer experience.

Michael is exactly the kind of leader this moment calls for.
Our clients’ growth challenges increasingly sit at the intersection of brand, experience, data, and technology. DEPT® is uniquely positioned—50% marketing, 50% technology—to meet that need. Michael brings the experience and clarity to lead our technology practice into its next chapter.
