DEPT®’s Senior Digital Consultant, Joe Watson, and Midweight Designer, Ali Marler, placed as runners up in the UK Young Lions competition 2022.

The competition is open to under-31s and its purpose is to find the best young creative talent to compete on behalf of the UK at the Global Young Lions competitions, which form part of the International Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity.

The competition is split into six categories (Design, Digital, Film, Marketers, Media, Print) and participants are set a brief by the Advertising Association, the official UK representative for the Cannes Lions festival.

The 2022 brief was aligned to the Advertising Association’s ‘All In’ workstream, an initiative to build a more inclusive industry. Participants were asked to respond by either creating an extension of its existing campaign or building an entirely new brand identity.

The brief is shared on Friday and participants have until Monday to submit their entry before being reviewed by a panel of industry jurors.

Entering the Digital category, Joe and Ali devised an integrated, digital-led campaign that would galvanise industry professionals to complete the 2023 ‘All In Census’. The duo placed as runners up in their category out of more than 130 entries.

Brian Robinson, Managing Director UK at DEPT®, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Joe and Ali for being recognised amongst so much talent in this competition. Participating alone demonstrates their extreme passion and enthusiasm, which is exactly what we want to nurture at DEPT®, and securing a runner up spot showcases the true skill in what they do.

“This is an amazing achievement and we can’t wait to see more of our talented team representing the agency throughout future competitions.”
