C&A, one of the leading fashion companies in Europe, has realigned its online store together with the digital agency DEPT®.

Technically, strategically and visually, a completely renewed customer experience platform has emerged.

New architecture and technology

C&A and DEPT® have been working together since 2020 and, as part of the extensive relaunch, decided to replace the monolithic eCommerce platform with a modern headless microservice architecture. The idea was to create a flexible system that was scalable in all areas in order to better meet user requirements.

The team developed and implemented new front and backend components. As a central digital touchpoint with new navigation, the online store will also support omnichannel customer journeys in the future. Shopping experiences in the online shop and in the branches are thus seamlessly linked.

Fresh design and content for improved user experience

Not only was the IT architecture of the customer experience platform adjusted, but the entire user journey. In close cooperation with the specialist teams from C&A, DEPT® developed an agile product strategy, created a roadmap and set up a cross-product design system.

The newly designed online store offers space for inspiring content and embodies modernity. Large-scale images and strong portraits are combined with close-ups. Elements such as the clearer shopping cart and the integrated size advice simplify the path for users.

Ulrike Otto, Head of Digital Experience at C&A, says: “With a strong partner like DEPT® by our side, we have been able to build a state of the art state of the art online store. The new platform fulfils the wishes of our customers, reflects the modernity of our brand and forms the basis for our ambitious growth targets.”

Verena Sandbote, Managing Director of Design & Technology at DEPT® Germany, adds: “We are proud to have created a truly scalable and customer-centric solution for C&A, which is underpinned by microservice architecture and a new design system that will serve the brand’s corporate and digital strategy into the future. And we look forward to expanding and further developing the new platform together.”
