4 commercial considerations for technical architecture

Investing in digital is undoubtedly the right thing to do, but your organisation needs to ensure that it is investing in the right things at the right time. After all, it’s counter-intuitive to spend budget on ‘quick fixes’ just to rip out a system that is no longer fit for purpose in the near future.


Digital is an ever-evolving landscape. Architecture should be set-up so that future technology such as AI, can easily be plugged in in the future. Vendor dependence: do you want to rely on a single vendor or would you prefer a best of breed approach with multiple vendor relationships.


Always consider what knowledge is required to develop and maintain these platforms, and whether you have the skills in-house to do so, or if you need an external partner to support.


Digital technology should be used to give you a competitive advantage, for example, this could include reduced time-to-market, multi-site localisation capabilities or advanced personalisation. When implemented properly, it can give you the edge over your competitors ad help you stay ahead of the game in regards to tech-savvy start-ups.
