Maar dat liep in 2020 helaas anders dan gedacht&#8230; Een event van een week dat normaal op allerlei plekken in de stad plaatsvindt, valt ineens weg. In lijn met deze nieuwe realiteit, gaven Rotterdam Festivals, DEPT\u00ae en entertainmentbureau Tribe Company daarom antwoord aan de bezoekers die normaal zouden afreizen naar Rotterdam met een uniek typography__color--onyxGrey typography__size--regular-body typography__align--left\"\n\t\t\t>\n\t\tAl vroeg in het proces werd duidelijk dat een simpel platform gevuld met livestreams, aandacht voor de sponsoren en interessante informatie over de stad in theorie een prima idee is, maar bij de fans niet hetzelfde gevoel zou oproepen als een fysiek bezoek. Juist de stad Rotterdam is een belangrijk onderdeel van de uitstraling. Zeker nu het event in digitale vorm opeens voor mensen over de hele wereld binnen handbereik is. Met deze uitdaging in het hoofd, begonnen we aan een ontwerp dat het energieke Rotterdamse gevoel over kan brengen en tegelijkertijd Eurovision een podium geeft.<br><br><br>Om tot een ontwerp te komen dat uitnodigt om te ontdekken en jezelf te verliezen in de wereld van het songfestival, moesten we de stad Rotterdam opnieuw uitvinden en Eurovision daarmee verweven. En hoe kan dat beter dan via 3D? Daarbij lag de focus niet alleen op Ahoy, waar het songfestival wordt gehouden, met daaromheen een aantal historische Rotterdamse gebouwen. Nee, het hele evenement en de volledige stad moesten in al hun grootsheid terugkomen. En zeggen we 3D, dan bedoelen we \u00e9cht 3D. Van alle huizen in de stad tot logo\u2019s van sponsoren die in hun 2D-vorm niet mooi in het ontwerp passen. Het duurde niet lang voordat we een hele serie aan 3D-objecten op de rit aan het zetten waren om het unieke \u2018Eurovision x Rotterdam\u2019 gevoel digitaal te cre\u00ebren.\u00a0<br><br>In het midden van de 3D-map ligt het festivalterrein de Binnenrotte, dat is gevuld met (live-)optredens, DJ-sets, behind the scenes video\u2019s en dagelijkse opwinding rondom alles wat Eurovision te bieden heeft. In de rest van de 3D-wereld valt alles wat kenmerkend is voor Rotterdam te ontdekken: van de Erasmusbrug en de Euromast tot de Markthal. Kortgezegd is het virtuele Village een plek waar gelijkgestemden elkaar ontmoeten, genieten van optredens, samen dansen, langs iconische plekken dwalen, stadshelden ontmoeten, iconische plekken bezoeken en de sfeer van de stad voelen &#8211; 24\/7, negen dagen lang geopend.\u00a0<br>\t<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\n\t<div Performance en hosting vormen daardoor een essenti\u00eble factor in het ontwerp. Het songfestival is een uitgesproken inclusief event, dus ook de techniek moet daar een verlengde van zijn en niemand onbedoeld buitensluiten. Tijd om te zorgen dat de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deptagency.com\/nl-nl\/service\/technologie-engineering\/cloud-devops\/\">cloud<\/a> hosting optimaal ge\u00efmplementeerd is om gedistribueerd al het verkeer naar de website aan te kunnen. Hoe? Door de website in meerdere regio\u2019s over de hele wereld te laten draaien op zogenaamde \u2018AppServicePlans\u2019: een geografische setup bestaande uit 12 verschillende regio\u2019s die draaien op Microsoft Azure. Met een technische check-up via Cloudfare en een fallback infrastructuur zorgen we dat het platform niet afhankelijk is van dezelfde type resources en eventuele problemen worden ondervangen. Wat betreft security zijn grondige voorzorgsmaatregelen genomen en het platform is schaalbaar op basis van de load die de website ontvangt.<br><br>De inclusiviteit en het welkome gevoel dat Eurovision haar fans geeft, komt ook terug in de poging de website volledig toegankelijk te maken. Hier zat een kleine uitdaging in verborgen, omdat 3D-platformen van nature visueel zijn ingesteld. Omdat klik interactie en tekst verweven zit in 3D, is zo\u2019n element voor een blind of slechtziend persoon nietszeggend. Door over het 3D-canvas semantische elementen toe te voegen, is gezorgd dat de website ook te gebruiken is met een screenreader en zonder pointer device. Zeker wanneer het creatieve concept in drie weken neergelegd moet worden, om vervolgens in vier weken een volledig functionerende 3D-wereld te bouwen. De onderliggende techniek die hiervoor is aangewend is WebGL, die er in alle browsers voor zorgt dat 3D-graphics optimaal weergegeven kunnen worden. Three.js vormt hierbij de 3D-library en zorgt voor de juiste utilities en tools om gemakkelijk in WebGL te kunnen werken. Het frontend framework wordt gevormd door React.js: een JavaScript library om user interfaces mee te bouwen. Tot slot worden de templates, of website pagina\u2019s, gebouwd in de Azure CI\/CD en geserveerd door het Cloudflare CDN. Al met al nogal wat technologie\u00ebn bij elkaar. Maar in zijn totaliteit is de website slechts 15MB &#8211; een bijzondere prestatie voor zo\u2019n groot platform.<br><br>Het CMS speelt ook een belangrijke rol in de ontwikkelingen. Door gebruik te maken van <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deptagency.com\/nl-nl\/partner\/contentful\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Contentful<\/a> konden medewerkers van Rotterdam Festivals de content naar gelang aanpassen. Zeker in de huidige realiteit, waarin het lastig vooruitdenken is met de almaar wisselende maatregelen, komt dit goed van pas. Op het ene moment mag het publiek niet fysiek aanwezig zijn, op het volgende moment wel. De volgende dag verandert het aantal toegestane fysieke bezoekers en de line-up verandert mee. Dit alles samengenomen vraagt om een systeem dat gemakkelijk meebeweegt met de echte wereld &#8211; een digitale twin van het Eurovision Village dat goed is gekoppeld aan de
